Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year Kindergarten experience. It is a bridge between preschool and elementary school, offering an extra year to acquire Kindergarten readiness. For the 2022-2023 school year, a child must be 4-years-old by September 1, 2022.

While TK collaborates closely with Kindergarten, it is a standalone class and program that provides age-appropriate, developmental instruction in a caring and structured environment. Student-initiated work is balanced with teacher-directed learning experiences that are shorter in length and infused with integrated learning and movement.

Features of the Transitional Kindergarten program:

  • Social emotional development
  • Oral language development
  • Developmentally appropriate reading, listening, math and writing skills
  • Enrichment classes, including physical education, art and music, Spanish language and science.
  • Multiple opportunities for purposeful play

The class will be offered as a full-day program, Monday through Friday, with a flexible morning starting time and a flexible afternoon end time. The TK program cost is $8,950 for the 2022-2023 academic year, with a 10% tuition discount applied to Kindergarten for those TK families who choose to continue at St. Michael’s for the 2023-2024 academic year.
